Board Biographies
Kim Miller
Mrs. Miller is one of the original founders as well as the first and current President of the Board of Directors. As a member of
the board she developed the initial and current budgets, wrote grants on behalf of Ridgeview, oversaw the business services,
and develops the schedule. She also holds a paid job at Ridgeview as the registrar and Business manager. She held the first
meeting and began organizing Ridgeview in the fall of 1999. She had been gathering information on charter schools and
charter law since enrolling her children the first Core Knowledge charter school in Fort Collins, Liberty Common School, in
1997. She served on the first accountability committee at Liberty Common School and then chaired the committee for the next
two years. She handled the enrollment for Liberty and was an interim office manager in 2000. She also developed the school
schedule for Liberty Common School from the fall of 1998 through spring 2001. She graduated from Colorado State
University in 1986 with a B.S. in occupational therapy, passed the board exams, and holds the title of OTR. She worked as an
occupational therapist at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado, from 1986 - 1993, at which time she had her
fourth child. She began practicing occupational therapy again in 1995, working in burns, head injuries, strokes, including
geriatric rehabilitation until 1999. From 1979-2000 she also owned a gymnastics school where she choreographed and coached
gymnastics. She was board president for the GymKats gymnastics team and was instrumental in facilitating fundraising
participation in bingo that generated $100,000.00 per year from 1997-1999. She was also the president of the
local MADD chapter from 1986-1988. She has been married for 26 years. Her oldest daughter graduated from CSU in May
2007; her twin daughters graduated from Ridgeview in 2007: Katelyn is attending Kansas University and Kelly is attending
Ashland University in Ohio. Her son is a junior at Ridgeview.
Lisa Hoffman
Lisa Hoffman is a current Board Member at Ridgeview Classical Schools where she has two children attending, one in 10 th
grade and one in 11th grade. She started her career by graduating with an Electrical Engineering degree from Montana State
University in 1983. She has a 20 year career in engineering working on various projects ranging from the launch of a Space
Telescope to the development of Embedded Processors. Activities during this time included both technical and managerial
responsibilities, as well as coordination between various disparate groups. In 2005, she and her husband moved to Fort Collins
to attain a better environment to raise their children. At that time, she quite working and became a volunteer at the school. By
spending time in the resource room, she was exposed to and learned about the school operation and curriculum.
Patrick Quadrel
Mr. Quadrel was a member of the original Ridgeview Board of Directors and has two children currently attending the school: a
daughter, who was in the inaugural Kindergarten class, and a son who entered Kindergarten in 2005. Mr. Quadrel graduated
from Rutgers University in 1983 with a B.S. in economics. In 1986 he became a CPA and received his M.B.A in finance and
business policy from the University of Chicago in 1987. He has over 20 years of experience in accounting, investing, and
finance as an auditor, controller, financial analyst, proprietary trader, and business manager. He has worked in a variety of
entrepreneurial, not-for-profit, investment bank, and international corporate settings. In addition to serving on the Ridgeview
Board of Directors, Mr. Quadrel is a youth soccer coach and holds a CSYSA-USSF National D coaching license. He has lived
in Fort Collins since 1993.
Paul Heyliger
Mr. Heyliger has been associated with RCS since the Fall of 2003 when he enrolled the oldest of his five children after 9 years
of home-schooling. All five of his children have either graduated from or are currently enrolled in RCS. Mr. Heyliger is
currently Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University, and he has served in the same
department since 1988. He earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1981 and his M.S. in Structural Engineering and Solid
Mechanics in 1983 (both from CSU), and his Ph.D. in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Virginia Tech in 1986. He
also held a post-doctoral research position at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, Colorado from
1986-1988, and has served as a visiting faculty member at University of California at Santa Barbara and the University of
Stuttgart. He has also been a research fellow at NASA-Glenn Research Center. As of this writing (2009), he has been married
to his wife, Janette, for 26 years. They walk or hike together regularly.
Jacque Bermal
Jacque Bermal has been involved with Ridgeview Classical Schools for nine years.
She was an original “100 hour volunteer” working to get Ridgeview off the ground in 2001.
She participated in the original hiring committee and grant writing efforts for the school.
She has been on the Accountability Committee for three years, has participated in the Parent Advocacy Committee, and has volunteered in many classroom activities for her three kids.
Jacque has been married 14 years to Jamie Bermel, the CSU Men's Golf Coach, and they have three kids: Emily (7th grade), Jack (6th grade), and Charlie (4th grade).
She received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of Georgia in 1990 and her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis in 1992.
She practices physical therapy part-time at the Northern Colorado Rehabilitation Center, working with a variety of patients (trauma, orthopedic, medical, and her favorite neurological patients, such as spinal cord injuries, head injuries, and strokes).
She loves outdoor activities and sports, particularly golf, volleyball (both playing and coaching the RCS 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls), hiking, travel, and reading.
Jacque has enjoyed watching Ridgeview grow from infancy to maturity and is excited to continue contributing to the constant improvement and sustainability of our school by serving on the Board.
