Overview of
the School
Ridgeview Classical Schools is a K-12 charter school entering
its seventh year in 2007-2008. The elementary school
adheres to the Core Knowledge sequence in its entirety and
also teaches phonetic spelling and reading, Singapore mathematics,
grammar, and Spanish. Daily study in Latin is required
from the sixth to the eighth grade, and another semester of
Latin is mandatory in high school. Great books/Socratic
discussion begins in the elementary school. The high-school
curriculum centers on the reading and discussion of great
books and primary sources in literature and history and on
a thorough understanding of the theories and concepts in mathematics
and the sciences. Many electives are offered in music,
art, literature, philosophy, economics, and current events.
Extracurricular events and clubs take place after school rather
than during school hours. To graduate, all seniors must
write a senior thesis and deliver and defend it orally in
front of fellow students, members of the faculty, and the
principal. Ridgeview's high school has been ranked either
second or third in the state of Colorado every year of its
existence and for the past two years has been number one in
the state. Teachers are hired based upon their mastery
of academic disciplines and ability to convey knowledge to
young people. Certification is neither required nor
preferred.
Fort Collins is a small city of roughly 125,000 people located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. It is home to Colorado State University and a large tech community. The cost of living is considerably less than on either of the coasts. Money Magazine rated Fort Collins as the number-one small city in the nation in 2006 for its quality of life.
Ridgeview
Classical Schools' enrollment for the 2006/2007 school year
is currently about 690 students. The students follow a dress code and all
faculty members model similar standards of appearance. The learning environment promotes academic excellence
and character development. Lessons on the importance of good character are woven throughout the curriculum.
To better understand the aims of a Ridgeview education, we
strongly encourage all prospective candidates to read the
following books:

Literacy by E.D. Hirsch, Jr.
- The
Schools We Need and Why We Don't Have Them by E.D. Hirsch,

It is necessary that the candidate maintains high academic standards for all students regardless of background or learning differences. More Information
Early Elementary
Ridgeview seeks an early elementary teacher with a strong background in the liberal arts or sciences. The curriculum requires the teaching of the Core Knowledge sequence, a phonetic reading and spelling program, Singapore mathematics, and grammar. The candidate should be able to work with and control young children. Teaching certification is not required for this position. Ridgeview prefers hiring teachers with majors in solid academic subjects rather than in education.

Teaching certification is neither required nor preferred for this position.
High School German
Ridgeview seeks a teacher of German to offer two or three courses of German in the high school. Modern languages are electives taught in the high school largely through immersion. Candidates for the position should possess native or near-native fluency in the language and will be interviewed in part by a native speaker of German. The ability to teach other subjects, particularly composition or literature, would be an advantage. The possibility exists for either part-time or full-time employment.
Latin/Humanities
Ridgeview will be hiring one new classics teacher for its large Latin program, one of the largest in Colorado. Latin is a required subject 6-8, and high school students must take at least one semester of Latin beyond this requirement. Preferably the candidate will have majored in either classics or classical history with substantial coursework in Latin. The ability to teach other subjects related to the classics would be an added advantage, e.g., classical literature, history, Greek, logic, or another foreign language. Teaching certification is not required. Experience teaching or working with young people would be an advantage but is not required. Ridgeview is interested in exploring the possibility of teaching more spoken Latin than we have in the past.
