Mrs. Hulpke

I was born in the middle of Transylvania sometime in the last millennium.  Grew up in my hometown, studied Physics, and taught Physics for 4 years before moving to the United States (my very first flight was a B747 to New York - quite an experience).  My extended family is still over there, so I try to visit every year.

I lived in Ohio for few years.  That is where I got my Master’s degree, and that is where I met my husband who happens to be German (funny thing we had to cross the Atlantic to meet each other).  We have two children (both Ridgeview students); we are an unusual family I guess as we raised our daughters tri-lingual.  Dinner conversations happen in English/German/Hungarian depending on who is talking to whom.

I enjoy reading (both in English and Hungarian), music (I started playing the piano a few years ago, just for myself), and walking.  I also enjoy traveling, exploring new places.

Where were you born and where have you lived?

I was born in Eastern Europe.  I am ethnic Hungarian from Transylvania, Romania.  I grew up in Kolozsvar (Cluj) and moved to Ohio in my late twenties. I came to Fort Collins in 2001.

Where did you attend university or college?

I got my undergraduate degree at the Babes-Bolyai University in my hometown and my M.S. at The Ohio-State University in Columbus, Ohio.

What kind of reading do you most enjoy doing?

I read mostly fiction although I read through quite a few memoirs these last few months.  Don't normally read fantasy, but I can't get enough of Terry Pratchett.

What are the small essentials that make life more comfortable?

Decaf coffee.  For some reason I can't wake up without it.

What are your favorite snacks?

Grapes!  if you leave some lying around me, I will eat them for sure.

What do you do to unwind?

I read, walk, play the piano (really badly so I use headphones), and watch British detective series.
